Nitelites Provide Audio Production to Major Awards TV show

Nitelites was once again selected as the contractor to provide audio reinforcement services to the prestigious Stirling Prize Awards. Broadcast live on BBC2 from London’s Camden Roundhouse to an estimated 8 million viewers, the show was presented by Grand Designs’ Kevin McCloud.

Given its scale and complexity, the sound design for this event required substantially more preparation time than most. The job specification called for a line array system to cover the large 360º venue without any compromise in audio quality. In addition, it was critical that system be flown out-of-sight of the television production, so as not to interfere with either the lighting or the seven large projection screens located around the audience area.

Nitelites and the Stirling Awards

To ensure that the entire production would go together on site as planned, many meetings were conducted with the primary contractors and the audio system was painstakingly added to a 3D model. The circular construction of The Roundhouse made the flying of equipment a challenge, as permanently installed lighting allowed only 2″ of clearance.

Once on site the system was built and flown as per the 3D model and acoustic calculations, and it provided the exact coverage that was predicted using the JBL LAC software.

As well as the JBL Vertec 4889 line array system, Nitelites provided Crown I-Tech 12000HD amplification, DiGiCo SD9 control, outboard processors from Klark Teknik, Neve and XTA, and Microphones from Shure, Countryman and Schoeps.
